Youth Detained in Search looking for suspected CDM at Mae Sot-Myawaddy Border Bridge

At Mae Sot-Myawaddy Bridge No. 1, on the Thailand-Myanmar border, Junta soldiers, troops, police, and immigration officers collaborated in a search operation targeting individuals associated with the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), resulting in the arrest of at least 10 youth.

On a typical day, hundreds of individuals traverse the border between Myawaddy in Karen State and Mae Sot on the Thai side, yet on that day, heavily armed Junta soldiers conducted inspections and detained the young people.

"The Junta authorities are issuing new bridge passes and conducting inspections, targeting CDM participants. We witnessed at least 10 youths being arrested and placed into vehicles, including women”, a source told Narinjara.

The Junta's inspections have caused anxiety and fear among travelers commuting between Mae Sot and Myawaddy.

Following the activation of the conscription law on February 10, the Junta has intensified arrests of young individuals under the law's age limit, citing various reasons such as alleged affiliations with CDM and the People's Defense Force (PDF).
