U Aung San Myint, the first secretary of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), reported meeting with Derek Chollet, Counselor of the United States Department of State, to discuss humanitarian aid initiatives.

"We discussed the current political and military situation, as well as the hardships encountered by war-displaced individuals, providing him with an update on these matters”, U Aung San Myint said.

Chollet also shared on social media X Twitter account: "Met today with leaders of Burma's "K3C" ethnic group alliance on their remarkable efforts towards establishing a federal democracy in Burma (Myanmar). We deliberated on ways for the international community to enhance assistance to those in need, and ensure a brighter future for the people of Burma."

During the discussion held on March 28 with US State Department’s Derek Chollet,

ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) collectively known as K3C, including the Karen National Union (KNU), Kachin Independence Army (KIA), KNPP, and Chin National Front (CNF), along with representatives of the National Unity Government (NUG), participated.

"We have not reached a solid agreement yet. We have shared the latest updates and plan to keep discussing. It was important for us to express our stance on humanitarian aid, which we have already made public”, U Aung San Myint added.

On January 31st, CNF, KNPP, KNU, KIA, and NUG collectively released a joint statement outlining shared objectives, which include ending military dictatorship and establishing a federal democratic union.

This appear to be this time that any US diplomat has expressed such approval as Chollet’s twitter comment that, "K3C" ethnic group alliance on their remarkable efforts towards establishing a federal democracy in Burma (Myanmar).”

On the other hand more senior US foreign affairs officials have given a much higher priority towards their alliance with Thailand, and are reluctant to pressure Thailand to open the border with Myanmar KNU and Karenni- controlled zones, where over 800,000 IDPs are desperate for humanitarian aid.

Given the Thai government has just delivered humanitarian aid across the land border at Mae Sot under junta control, this would be an opportune time for US diplomacy to push the Thai government to ensure comparable aid distribution to KNU and Karenni resistance –controlled zones.
