NUG’s Defense Minister and KIA’s Chief-of-Staff Conduct Joint Tour of KIA-Captured Military Bases

The Minister of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG) U Yee Mon and the Chief-Of-Staff of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) (Chief Commander- No.1 Military Region) Lieutenant General R Hkawng Lum jointly embarked on an inspection of KIA-captured military bases in Manwein area of Kachin State, NUG announced.

U Yee Mon and Lieutenant General R Hkawng Lum not only inspected bases and ammunition seized by KIA in the Manwein area of Mansi Township, but also met with prisoners of war (PoWs) and defectors.

NUG further declared its plans to repurpose weapons and ammunition acquired from the enemy, during the operations to bolster the capabilities of the resistance forces.

Since the beginning of January, the KIA has intensified its offensives against the Military Council bases in both northern Shan State and Kachin State.

Colonel Naw Bu, the spokesperson for the Kachin Independence Organization/Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA), stated that in 2023, after 563 clashes with the Military Council, KIA successfully seized 23 enemy bases and outposts of various sizes.
