Karenni Political Prisoner Association (KPPA) Established Among Former Prisoners to Support the Resistance

The Karenni Political Prisoner Association (KPPA) was established by individuals who were arrested on political charges following the 2021 military coup, and have since been released. KPPA's mission is to deploy former political prisoners to bolster various resistance forces, supporting them in executing assigned duties.

A female former political prisoner stated that KPPA intends to collaborate with revolutionary forces, and exert maximum effort to support the resistance movement.

“All members of KPPA are individuals who were previously political prisoners. During the second conference, it was decided to initiate the formation of the association with approximately 30 members”, she said.

The inaugural conference, attended by approximately 30 former political prisoners, took place on November 23rd in Yusamoso village, Demoso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, as indicated in the statement from the second conference on December 1st. Additionally, KPPA successfully established an advisory council and an 11-member steering committee.

"The association is organized into sections covering education, health, administration, and more, with a focus on assisting war-displaced individuals and various social sectors”, the aforementioned woman told Kantarawaddy Times.

The 2024 agenda of KPPA encompasses initiatives to mobilize the public, support fellow political prisoners, and execute assignments designated by the revolutionary forces.

KPPA has declared its commitment to being a non-partisan association, concentrating on addressing political and social issues in the future.
