Junta Troops Issues Threat to Torch Homes of Evacuating Residents near Its Base in Kale Township

The Military Council’s troops stationed in Kale Township, Sagaing Region, have threatened residents in close proximity to their base, stating that they will set fire to the homes of those who choose to evacuate.

The People's Defense Force (PDF) operating in Kale Township notified on November 26th that residents near the Military Council's bases should evacuate by December 15th as urban warfare is about to accelerate. After that, the Military Council troops threatened to burn the all pf the houses of  locals living near their base, if they evacuated.

"The soldiers instructed the houses near the base not to evacuate, warned against believing PDF's statement, and threatened to set fire to houses that would be evacuated”, a local told Chin World.

Currently, residents living near the base are uncertain about how to navigate the conflicting threat from the Military Council and the warning issued by the People's Defense Force (PDF).

"We're unsure about our next steps. Our neighbors haven't evacuated, so we're staying in our own house. The Military Council's base fired repeated warning shots at night, and it was frightening, but we're hesitant to take any hasty actions”, a Kale resident said.

Presently, in downtown Kale, the Military Council is conducting searches and inspections of residents' phones and motorcycle toolboxes as part of security measures.
