Karenni Peoples Liberation State Police Arrests Dealer Selling Drugs to War-Displaced Individuals

Karenni State — A joint operation involving regional officer U Zunni Lin from KSP's No. 9 Police Station, comrade Kordi Zin Htoo of the Karenni National People's Liberation Front (KNPLF), and comrade Sein Ba Tun of the 5th Battalion of the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) resulted in the apprehension of the suspected drug dealer, following a tip-off provided by the local community.

On October 31st Karenn State Police (KSP) officials reported the arrest of a man who was encouraging war-displaced individuals to sell drugs in a village west of Demoso Township in Karenni (Kayah) State.

An official of KSP’s No. 9 Police Station told NMG, “Our responsibility as police is limited to apprehending the suspect. It is the court's role to deliver a suitable g punishment. We aid in the arrest of drug dealers with solid evidence and ensure they face trial. Usually these crimes result in sentences of 10 to 15 years in prison, adjudicated by the courts under the Justice Department of the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC).”

The apprehended individual is U Aung Than Lin, aged 30, and KSP officials confiscated over 1000 methamphetamine tablets bearing the inscription "WY" from his residence. He is presently held at No. 9 Police Station, and a case has been initiated under Section 19(A)/ 22-B of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

In response to NMG's inquiry about efforts to combat drug trafficking, the spokesperson from No. 9 Police Station stated, "We are implementing random checks and apprehensions, as well as delivering educational presentations in schools, villages, and areas under our jurisdiction to minimise drug use."

Additionally, on September 13th, in a village situated within Demoso Township under KSP's jurisdiction, KSP confiscated psychostimulant drugs and drug-related paraphernalia.
