The Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA) has submitted a report that indicates an increasing number of deaths within the first six months of this year, due to the attacks carried out by the Burmese military in Chin State. It also states that it is all-time record number of deaths in recent history.

The deaths include both civilians and Chinland Defense Forces, reported as: 34 male and 16 female civilians 58 male and one female guerrillas. These fatalities are mainly caused in airstrikes and landmines and heavy shelling.

“We have got to consider how it will get worse in the remaining six months, and keep monitoring the death rate as  the military keeps up its bombardment.said Salai Van Sui San, the deputy director of ICA. “ We

have to keep monitoring how the international bodies respond to the military’s disproportionate airstrikes, and indiscriminate attacks against ordinary civilians”, he added.

The total number of killings perpetrated by the military reportedly reached 195 in 2022 from 164 in 2021, according to the ICA’s report.  

ICA also called upon the international community to increase their attention on the ongoing political conflicts and violence in Myanmar and take necessary measures in response.
