Providing health care in Karenni State is becoming difficult due to junta airstrikes being launched against healthcare facilities in the state, according to the Waid Zar Medical Team.

Dr Ko Oak of the Waid Zar Medical Team, which provides healthcare in Karenni State explained that hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities providing medical treatment were being targeted by airstrikes, which was making it difficult to provide medical treatment to internally displaced people (IDPs) and revolutionary soldiers.

He said: ”We are unable to stay in public medical facilities because hospitals and clinics have been targeted by airstrikes because the military council is primarily focused on bombing areas where medical treatment is provided. So, we need secure places from where we can provide healthcare to the people of Karenni State.”

The Waid Zar Medical Team has been providing healthcare to defence force fighters, civilians and IDPs in Karenni State for about two years. But, it needs more supplies and medicines to continue giving healthcare.

“There is a need for safe transportation to secure places where medical treatment can be given. We also require emergency bandages, cotton pads, and rubbing alcohol”, said Dr. Ko Oak.

The Waid Zar Medical Team mobile medical teams are also facing difficulties in reaching some villages on Karenni State.

Dr. Ko Oak said: “Medical drugs are becoming more expensive as a result of the country's political turmoil. There are no roads or transportation in the forest, making it difficult for medical teams to reach IDPs and revolutionary soldiers.”
