Mon State Hluttaw MPs are now more publicly accessible thanks to a book collating their information and contact details.

The Myanmar Center to Empower Regional Parliaments (MCERP), an independent group promoting transparent politics and facilitating interaction between the public and legislators, launched the book on September 20. The book is a compendium of information about the Mon State hluttaw, including a listing of all the affairs committees and the MPs, along with their biographies. It also breaks down the structure and organization of the state parliament.

“This book provides the contact information of the MPs in order to help the public find out what their representatives are doing,” said Ko Than Naing, chief executive officer of the MCERP.

The MCERP put the book together after obtaining permission from all the Mon State MPs, he added.

“Many people don’t know how to contact the hluttaw organizations, the MPs or the hluttaw committees,” said Aung Naing Oo, deputy Speaker of the Mon State Hluttaw. “This book provides the phone numbers and email addresses of the Mon State Hluttaw officials. It has been distributed among the public so that anyone can contact the hluttaw now.”

The MCERP published 1,000 copies of the book in August. Another batch of 2,000 copies was published this month.
