Mon State Hluttaw’s public complaints and petitions committee has found solutions for 170 of the 486 complaint or petition letters submitted by the public during this current government’s term, according to Mon State Hluttaw’s public complaints and petitions committee.

The majority of these complaint letters were regarding land cases, while the committee received 58 duplicate complaint letters surrounding matters that the Mon State Government group had already solved from it’s inception till October 2016.

“We work with cooperation from respective departments to undertake field work and check matters in order to solve them, if they are necessary cases. We have received reply letters from the government till 10th month [October]. However, after that, we never got the response letters. Subsequently, the public again complains that nothing special has been provided after they submitted the complaint letters,” said U Aung Kyaw Thu, chairman of Mon State Hluttaw’s public complaints and petitions committee.

U Aung Kyaw Thu, who is also the Hluttaw representative, continued that regarding the respective letters, the committee would then ask the government team to note which department would be responsible for the cases, which matters would be checked and how the respective government team would implement processes. However, when there was no reply from the government team, the committee went ahead and helped resolve the cases as much as it could.

“It is difficult for us when we have not received any replies from the government office in terms of what the government has done after we have conducted field work in the region and after we, or the Hluttaw, submitted the report to the government,” said U Zaw Zaw Htoo, secretary of the public complaints and petitions committee.

U Zaw Zaw Htoo continued that the committee would conduct field work and initiate observations if there was no reply from the government team. Since the committee has to submit the report to the Hluttaw speaker, who then has to submit the report to the government team and wait for a reply, there are delays. U Zaw Zaw Htoo believes it should not be the case.

During the last government’s term, the Hluttaw received 1661 complaint letters from the public, but only 370 cases were solved under government negotiations, according to the last term of Mon State Hluttaw’s record.
