The body of a missing police colonel was found on July 25 in a stream in northern Rakhine State following a boating accident in Buthidaung township that left four officers missing.

The body was identified as Police Colonel Ye Zaw Htut, one of the four Taung Bazar Police Station personnel reported as missing.

“The body of Police Colonel Ye Zaw Htut was found floating in an overturned position at the Kalar Panzin Stream near a school in Aung Thar Yar Village of Buthidaung township,” an official from Taung Bazar Police Station confirmed.

No injuries were found on the body, and a gold ring, a mobile phone, cash, a pistol gun hostler, a pistol and ten bullets were recovered along with the body.

The authorities are still searching for the three other police officers who went missing together with Police Colonel Ye Zaw Htut: Police Corporal Khin Maung Than, Police Corporal Ko Ko Aung and Lance Corporal Tun Lin Htike.

Seven police officers were returning from a territorial clearance operation in Kyaung Taw Village, Buthidaung township when their boat capsized on the Kalar Panzin Stream, eight miles away from Taung Bazar camp, at around 10pm on July 23. Only three officers returned back to the station after the incident.
