Broken bridges hamper vehicular movements in Arakan

Current wave of flood generated by the torrential rain in Arakan State in the recent days damaged many roads & bridges. The authority has started repairing works, though it may take few days to complete the job.

The vehicular movement through the Yangon-Sittwe highway was prevented for two days on 5 and 6 July due to the heavy rain and flood. The road connecting  Mrouk Oo with Min Bya townships got affected with three broken bridges over it.

njr1201According to a Wan La Development Foundation leader the Minphu bridge was completely damaged. The people were either walking or riding two-wheelers and few even took the boat services to cross the water stream. Nearly 30 vehicles were waiting for their turn on the road, claimed Ko Zaw Zaw Tun of Wan La Development Foundation.

Speaking to Narinjara News, the Arakan State social welfare minister admitted that till  9 July, the traveling was not smooth, as many vehicles had to wait for  two days in Min Bya township. The other damaged bridge at Ra Maung on the road connecting Min Bya township with Ann township was also repaired, he added.

In some places the authority has also placed temporary bridges to help the commuters.
