New report to highlight disturbing extent to which China has advanced construction of Trans-Burma oil and gas pipeline projects despite raging conflict in the project area and associated human rights abuses.

Bangkok, Thailand – On September 6, 2011, the Shwe Gas Movement will hold a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand launching a new report Sold Out: Launch of China pipeline project unleashes abuse across Burma. The report reveals the disturbing extent to which China has advanced construction of trans-Burma oil and gas pipeline projects despite raging conflict in the project area and associated human rights abuses.
The press conference will feature presentations from Wong Aung of the Shwe Gas Movement and Lway Aye Nang of the Palaung Women's Organization followed by a Q&A session. Presenters will be able to answer questions about the current situation in the project-impacted areas across Burma and the Burma-China border.
