Burmese military warns of bomb attacks by exiled groups

The Burmese military regime has once again lashed out at pro-democracy groups in exile, claiming that they have been involved in terrorist activities and bomb plots.

The Burmese military regime has once again lashed out at pro-democracy groups in exile, claiming that they have been involved in terrorist activities and bomb plots.

State-run newspapers on Friday accused several groups in exile, including the National Council of the Union of Burma, the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma and the Federation of Trade Unions of Burma of being involved with terrorist organisations.

"Now they are planning to have a meeting with rebel groups to create disintegration and instability of the Union of the country in July," an article in Myanma Ahlin said.

But NCUB spokesperson Myint Thein said the military could be planning to launch attacks themselves.

"The military seems to have particular plans to set off explosions. They used to make this kind of accusation before they planned to plant bombs in the country," Myint Thein.

Myint Thein said the fresh military rhetoric was probably a reaction to increasing international pressure on the regime.

The state-run press also slammed democracy activists around the world for promoting instability in Burma by supporting opposition groups.

Nyo Ohn Myint, a spokesperson for the National League for Democracy – Liberated Area, told Mizzima groups in exile would never use terrorism to gain their political objectives.
