Child and two women washed away by flooded Ye river

The people who died were those living by the riverside. “As far as I know, a child and two women from the Annawa quarter died. But residents claimed that there are many more people who are missing,” Ko Moe a Ye resident said.
Flash floods in Ye township, southern Mon state two days ago, killed a number of people.

“Authorities just found the body of a man after the water subsided. But they have not yet found the others,” said a Ye resident.

The people were trapped and could not escape when the river bank was washed away by a huge rush of flood water from the torrents coming down the mountain side.

The people who died were those living by the riverside. “As far as I know, a child and two women from the Annawa quarter died. But residents claimed that there are many more people who are missing,” Ko Moe a Ye resident said.

According to the resident the motor road long the river bank was inundated and all shops on the riverside had to close for two days.

But the water has subsided now and some shops have reopened. Following heavy rains in southern Burma the Ye river was flooded. Some people who live in areas where the Ye river originates, died because of the floods.

On July 2, a man and two women died in a boat accident when it overturned in the flooded river.

A woman was also carried away by flood waters in the Three Pagoda Pass Township yesterday, according to a resident of the Township.
