Burma News International (BNI), a network of ten Burma independent news/media organizations, is seeking for a Coach Feature editor/ news copy editor for Burmese language to write news, features, coach some Burma journalists on feature writing, assist them with their writing and improve their writing skills. The contract for this position is 8 months. And as a Coach Feature editor/ news copy editor, you are required to show  your skills and also you will gain valuable experience in a wide range of aspects.  

Main responsibilities
  • have a commitment to work hard
  • communicate with BNI members on daily basis
  • Be a part of the team and work with people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • write features and news
  • provide trainings to BNI's members' journalists on feature writing and advanced news writing skills
  • support networking among the members
  • proof read, edit and add more content to the BNI news stories when required
  • Regularly read the BNI stories and together with BNI journalists, produce features
  • Regularly monitor the BNI website together with Development Secretary and Webmaster
  • Constantly communicate with BNI staff and members' journalists, who are based in Thailand, India and Bangladesh
  • attend meetings, conferences and trainings when required

Skills and requirements
  • Must have minimum of 2 years journalism experience
  • Must be able to speak and write Burmese fluently (preferably native speaker) and must also have some English language skills
  • Must be able to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Preference for those with experience in feature writing and whom have worked in a news organization for at least 2 years
  • Must understand Burma situation well and have good knowledge of the country
  • Must have some computer skills
  • Must be able to travel with a valid document to the places where BNI members are based such as Thailand, India and Bangladesh and preferably someone with non-immigrant visa to stay in Thailand
  • Should be flexible, should have initiative, be friendly and be able to work with all ethnic groups and religions
  • must have good communication skills
  • should have the ability to give training when needed
  • should reside in Thailand and preferably in Chiang Mai
  • must be flexible with the working hours
  • should be able to travel (sometimes) for field work
