Lower House candidate U Pan Maung from Thabyuzayat Township says that independent candidates are competing in the election in the shadow of the big parties in support of regional development.

Q: Why are you competing as a candidate in the upcoming election?

A: I am competing after making a decision to work for the benefit of our race and the public.

Q: Since you want to work for the benefit of the Mon people, what do they need?

A: I believe our people lack education, health and economic [development] so I want to contribute to these [sectors].

That’s why I’m running in the election.

Q: What will be your priorities after you become a representative?

A: As I’ve said before, I will focus on the three sectors of education, health, economic [development] in our state.

Q: What are the needs of your constituency?

A: The above three issues are the ones needed [in the constituency]. Everything is lacking. We also need transportation and electricity.

Q: What’s your view on the development sector?

A: I have found that our area is lacking in the development sector. I will carry this out by cooperating with the public.

Q: There are other ethnic people in Mon State. What do you plan to carry out for these ethnic people?

A: I will work on receiving equal rights for ethnic people.

Q: What do you want to tell the public about the election?

A: If the public vote for a true Mon candidate with qualifications among the Mon, qualified candidates will be able to enter parliament.
