Htoe Myar — The latest voter list for Karenni State still contains some errors, said U Edward, Hpruso Township Commission’s deputy chief officer.

“We have included the names of the people who have submitted their applications. The previous voter list was nearly complete. I haven’t heard anyone coming to tell us about not being included in the voter list. If they won’t come to submit their applications, they won’t be able to vote,” said U Edward.

The Commission had instructed that an updated voter list be publicly posted at least three days prior to Election Day. According to this latest voter list, Hpruso Township has 17,386 eligible voters.

The practice of publicly posting updated voter lists multiple times is meant to enable people who are not on the list to submit applications for their names to be added.

The list still contains the names of recently deceased people, but it was too late to remove them as the list has been copied six times.

Htay Ngha Hlya Village Administrator U Shae Reh said that the updated voter list for Daw Paw Ka Le Village Tract of Loikaw Township will be publicly posted for seven days starting from October 31. “This latest voter list contains few errors. There have only been minor errors with the names,” he said.

Demoso Township’s voter list has been posted in each village and will also be posted at the polling stations and ward and village offices, according to Demoso Township Election Sub-Commission’s deputy chief officer U San Win.

“The voter list has been posted since November 2nd. We will post them until the Election Day. There aren’t many errors in this latest voter list,” said U Tu Reh, secretary of ward and village commission from Htee Hpoe Ka Loe Village Tract in Demoso Township.

According to the latest voter list, Htee Hpoe Ka Loe Village Tract has 2,551 eligible voters and the people with incorrect names will only have their names corrected in the voting tickets.

“There are still errors in the latest voter list including incorrect gender issues. But what is more important is for people to have their names included in the voter list. If their names are not on the list they won’t be able to vote. The rest of the people can vote even if the voter list is incorrect,” he said.

According to latest voter list, there are 23,903 eligible voters in Constituency No 1 and 25,344 eligible voters in Constituency No 2.

The number of eligible voter in Karenni State has increased with each successive voter list. There were 158,649 eligible voters on the first voter list, 172,100 eligible voters on the second voter list, and 178,175 eligible voters in this latest voter list, according to the Karenni State Election Commission.
