Sa Eh Sue — In seven wards in Kawkareik, Karen State some ward and village election sub-commission offices released the voter list so late that many weren’t allowed to get registration cards, according to information obtained from affected ward and village sub-commissions.

Although the township commission has distributed the latest voter list to all ward and village sub-commission offices on Nov. 2, the ward and village sub-commission offices were busy with advanced voting duties so some wards only released their voter list and issued voter registration cards from the 6th to the 7th, according to residents.

U Hla Aung, an official from the Ward and Village Sub-Commission in Ward No 2, told the BNI Election Newsroom he witnessed thousands of voter registration cards that have not been issued by the time the ward and village sub-commissions closed yesterday evening.

“We will continue to distribute these registration cards on Election Day. Some registration cards are for those working in Thailand and that’s why a lot of them were forgotten,” he said.

Other residents faced difficulties getting their registration cards yesterday due to errors on the most up to date voter list; many left empty handed, according residents.

“I’m trying to find my family’s registration numbers, but I still haven’t found it yet. There are too many people. I try to find their names in alphabetical order, but I can’t find them. When I told my family about it, they told me to come back home,” said Maung Aung Kyaw from Ward No 3.

The Union Election commission in Ward No 5 was taking advanced votes tasks for elders and sick patients and issuing voter registration cards until 10 am last night.
