Sa Ai Sue — “It’s not good that they are trying to prevent the voters from voting by using security as a reason . . . The public have lost their rights as citizen. But, it doesn’t matter to us. We will run where we can,” said Saw Tin Win the NLD's Lower House candidate in Karen State’s Kyain Seikgyi Township during an interview with reporter Sa Ai Sue.
Q: What have you prepared to run in the upcoming election?
A: We are nearly finished with our preparations. We have erected the party signboards and given voter education because the public doesn't know how to vote. As this will be their first time, we have been showing how to give valid ballots in order to prevent them from submitting spoiled ballots.
Q: What are the challenges for you since Kyain Seikgyi Township is the only area in Karen State where the majority of the polling stations won't be open?
A: As for the challenge, we will compete in the remaining villages even if polling stations are not open in 43 village tracts. But, this isn’t only a concern for me. It’s concerns all the parties that are running in the election. If there are ten villages, our opponents will run in these ten villages. It would be better if all 43 village tracts can vote. It’s not good that they try to prevent the voters from voting using security as a reason and because they don’t have any candidates to run here. The public lost their rights as citizens. But, it doesn’t matter to us. We will run where we can.
Q: Which party is your main opponent in this area?
A: I consider everyone as my opponent. I don’t intend for anyone to be my opponent. I think of all of them on an equal level. All of them are good opponents.
