Thuta Linn — National League for Democracy (NLD) chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi plans to meet with winning NLD candidates from Upper Burma and Kachin State in Pyinmana located near Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw on Dec. 5.

Kachin State candidates will report on new fighting that is breaking out in the most northern state in Myanmar.

“Even if we don’t tell her (speak to her directly), the chairperson (Daw Aung San Suu Kyi) already knows about this issue affecting peace (in Kachin State). But all the candidates will consult each other (first) to submit as much as we can about the main difficulties achieving peace in our state,” said U Dashi La Seng, a winning NLD State Parliament candidate from Hpakant Constituency No 2.

Over 60 NLD candidates won seats in Kachin State and many will present their views on how to solve this problem during the meeting, she said.

In a recent meeting in Yangon, Suu Kyi said that ethnic candidates will be given priority for training because addressing the issues affecting ethnic groups is very important.

Most of the NLD Kachin candidates queried by BNI Election Newsroom expressed interest in attending the training sessions that will take place in the party headquarters. They would like to be involved in any discussions of peace in the parliament.

“We need to have a full understanding in order to participate in peace talks. Peace is the main aim of our party,” said U Ze Khaung, winning NLD Upper House candidate from the Kachin State Constituency No 3.
