Sai Aung Myo Lwin — Although election results for the rest of Myanmar have long been announced, residents of Kachin State will have to wait until after Nov. 20 to find out who their Shan Ethnic Affairs Minister will be.

U Sai Kyaw Oo, a candidate for Taileng (Red Shan)
Nationalities Development Party contesting the
Shan Ethnic Affairs Minister, signs Form 19
recognizing the election results that have been released.

Speculators say the seat will go to the National League for Democracy (NLD) which swept up most of the votes both in state and nationally giving them a majority government.

“They won by a large margin in Mohnyin and Mogaung,” said U Sai Kyaw Oo, a candidate with Taileng (Red Shan) Nationalities Development Party (TNDP) contesting the Shan Ethnic Affairs position.

Voting results in some parts of Kachin State still haven’t been released.

U Maung Maung Kun, chairman for Kachin State Election Commission, recently said: “Kawnglanghpu Township is left and our secretary is travelling by plane to get the results.”
