San Maung Than — The administrator of Manaw Thiri Village in Arakan State’s Pauktaw Township has been asserting his authority over the voter list in a manner that others find troubling, a local resident tells Naranjira.

“When the voter list was posted the second time, the village administrator posted it at his home. He threatened villagers against speaking out about errors on the voter list,” a local resident claimed.

Due to his threats, villagers have been afraid of going to his home to check the voter list. When they requested that he post the voter list at the office of the Election Commission or at a public place, he refused to do this, Naranjira has learned.

As the deadline for correcting the errors on the voter list is today, the villagers worry whether their names are being included on the list and if they will be able to vote in the election.

The villagers have reported their concerns to the Pauktaw Election Commission, but no action has been taken against the village administrator so far.
